The other night I found an old mix CD in my car and started listening to it, and of course it was full of my favorite jams! Jennifer Lopez, Britney Spears, Katy Perry, and Madonna. I cannot tell you how much I love all of these singers, I’ve grown up listening to hit after hit from them. I also love the fact that these women are “Girl Power”, they aren’t just singers, they are entrepreneurs, they’d made themselves powerful brands. These women are paving the way for future generation of entertainers, they are showing the world that women can be just as successful as men, if not more.
A woman like Jennifer Lopez, who grew up in The Bronx (that’s not exactly one of the nicest locations), she had to work extremely hard to stand out above the rest, to prove to people that she had talent, and that even though she is Latina, she decided to not only conquer the Latin market, but the world, and in doing so, she opened doors to other Latinas. She had a little bit of a slump, but now she is back and stronger than ever, her most recent songs are worldwide hits, and she is on the cover of every major magazine! J-Lo is definitely an artist i look up to. Katy Perry is another artist I love, and what draws me to her is her asian inspired style and upbeat fun music. She is an artist that makes you feel good. I remember that when i was thinking about a video concept for my first single, I wanted something along the lines of the “California Girl” video, with the candy lane theme, so when i saw it i was in awe! When I think about Madonna, I really am just so inspired. I read somewhere that when she had just started, she would beg DJs in NYC to spin her songs, to think that now a party isnt a party without a Madonna song, it’s incredible.
A few other artists that i love are Far East Movement, they’re just cool guys, they’re style and laid back attitude is really appealing. I remember that when I first came to L.A. I went to meet a magazine owner for some possible modeling and acting work. It turns out that he was a former manager and as we were talking, he suggested that I try singing instead and offered to set me up with an unknown all asian male group who needed a female lead.Years later I found out it may have been “The Far East Movement” group before they were famous! Even though that didn’t come through, I really look up to them, I wish them the best!
As you can tell by now i LOVE music, especially pop, electro-pop, club, dance, techno, and trance! Although, i do love me some hip hop! Eminem and Nicki Minaj for their raw lyrics. Artists like LMFAO, DEV, and Far East Movement for their electro hip hop style that makes you want to get up and dance! I also cannot leave out RiRi, Rihanna is so bold and sexy, if i didn’t love her so much, i’d probably be hating a little bit.
I could really go on and on about this! But i want to hear a little back from you! Who are some of your favorite singers, and why?
